If you are a prospective JEE candidate, you might find this page useful
I've listed some books which I used for the IIT JEE, some which
I know my classmates at IIT used for prepping, and some which
I think can be used effectively for the JEE. I am unsure of the
publishers, after all, it's been some time since I took the JEE :) .
Mathematics
Calculus
Integral Calculus, Shanti Narayan, S.Chand & Co.
Differential Calculus, Shanti Narayan, S.Chand & Co.
A Problem Book in Mathematical Analysis, G.N.Berman, CBS Publishers
Problems in Calculus of one Variable, IA Maron, CBS Publishers
( Above books are collections of problems)
Calculus, Piskunov, MIR Publishers
Calculus by many Russian authors
( Not sure if Russian books are available easily. These can be
used as theoretical foundations).
Algebra, Discrete Maths, Probability
Higher Algebra, Hall & Night, S.Chand & Co.
Intro. to Probability and its applications, William Feller, Addison Wesley
(I came across Feller only in the US. However, I think it
can be used for the JEE )
Trigonometry, CoGeo, Vectors
Trigonometry, S.L.Loney, S.Chand & Co
Coordinate Geometry , S.L.Loney, S.Chand&Co
AIO books ( All-In-One )
IIT Mathematics, M.L.Khanna
Tata McGrawHill IIT Mathematics Guide
These books have solved problems. In deference to my
professor's advice, I never bought these. I would advise
you the same but there is no harm having a look at them
once in a while.
Physics
The one absolutely essential book
Problems in General Physics, I.E.Irodov, CBS Publishers
This is one heck of a book. Buy this before anything else.
Please try and solve the problems yourself. Do not buy the
umpteen "abc solutions to Irodov" books.
General
Physics vols 1,2, Resnick & Halliday
University Physics, Sears & Zeemansky
The Feynman Lectures on Physics vols 1,2, Richard P. Feynman, Narosa(?)
Mechanics
Statics, S.L.Loney
Dynamics, S.L.Loney
Fundamental Laws of Mechanics, I.E.Irodov, CBS Publishers
Engineering Mechanics vols1, 2, Beer & Johnston, McGrawHill (?)
Engineering Mechanics, Irving Shames, Prentice-Hall of India (?)
These are books I encountered in IIT Madras for my Engineering Mechanics
courses. They have many problems which can be straight out of
a JEE Physics paper. It would be definitely worth your while to take a
look at these.
Electromagnetism
Basic Laws of Electromagnetism, I.E.Irodov, CBS Publishsers.
Intro to Electrodynamics, Griffiths, Prentice Hall of India (?)
Again, Griffiths is a book I used at IIT Madras for my second semester
Physics course. Nevertheless some problems can be tackled at JEE
level although the vector methods may be a bit too advanced.
Chemistry
Physical Chemistry, P.W.Atkins
Organic Chemistry, R.T.Morrison & R.N.Boyd
Inorganic Chemistry, J.D.Lee
Inorganic Chemistry, P.L.Soni
Numerical Chemistry, Sarin & Sarin
IIT Chemistry,O.P.Agarwal
